So, this is where we are as a country?
This morning I watched the interview between George Stephanopoulos and Pete Buttigieg on Good Morning America. All I could think was, wow.
For those who haven’t seen it, someone made a false report suggesting that Pete Buttigieg’s children were not safe in their own home. Authorities are investigating, and if the person responsible is identified, they will reportedly face prosecution.
I don’t often share my personal opinions on political matters, but this isn’t about politics. It’s about basic human decency.
Who would knowingly put children and an entire family through something like this? Whoever made that call should be overwhelmed with shame. No political disagreement, no ideological difference, no personal bias justifies weaponizing the safety of children.
When did we reach a point where terrorizing families became acceptable?
I’ll make this personal for just a moment. The person I have chosen to walk through life with is my husband. That decision belongs to us, not to strangers, not to politicians, and not to those who believe they have the right to judge our family. I respectfully invite anyone who disagrees to step outside of our relationship and allow us to live our lives in peace.
And finally, to those who believe my family is somehow a sin, I leave you with a thought that has stayed with me for years:
If you believe my family is a sin, then your belief says my sin is love. Your sin is hate.
I can’t claim those words as my own, but I have rarely heard a statement that so clearly captures the difference.
We can disagree. We can debate. But we should never lose our humanity.
So, this is where we are as a country? I just watched an interview on Good Morning America with George Stephanopoulos and Pete Buttigieg. All I can say is WOW! Who would do this? I have provided a link to the interview below but in short, someone called and reported an incident and suggested that Pete’s children were not safe around him.
At this point they don’t know who did it but they are looking and if and when found they will be prosecuted. My personal opinion, which I normally do not share, is that the person that did this should be oozing shame from every pore in their body.
How and when did subjecting children and a family to this become acceptable? Turning the light on my family, my choice of who I walk through life with is between me and my husband. I invite you to step out of our relationship!
Finally, if you believe my family is a sin, remember this, your belief suggests my sin is love, your sin is hate! I wish I could say that was my original thought but it is not.
